Book Review: “Juicy Pens, Thirsty Paper

with 3 comments

SARK’s Juicy Pens, Thirsty Paper is an engaging and delightful read. When I first picked it up, I had a hard time putting it down until I had finished it.

As well as being visually appealing and infused with playful humor, this book bursts with practical and simple exercises for the writer in overcoming creative blockages. Particularly inspiring are the portraits of other writers who share their insights on the creative process. Finally, the lists of writing resources at the end are worth the price of the book alone.

Juicy Pens, Thirsty Paper will easily become a valuable tool for any new or veteran writer. I highly recommend it.

from left to right, top to bottom:

Fairy Bright – with background by my nephew Dakota – and ideas from the SFC folk – text says “fairy light, fairy bright, first magic I see tonight”

Another one to honor the Were Pen – reads “Kerry Inkslinger”

Go Green – for my daughter the locovore

Look through this hole…

Casablanca, of course!

vintage Halloween greeting:  May yuou be as lucky as this little kitty, to be held in the arms of someone so pretty”

A Sigh in the Wind

with 9 comments

A Sigh in the Wind

My voice is no more than a sigh in the wind,
A falling leaf,
One among many,
A raindrop that doesn’t touch the ground,
A tiny bird lost in a storm.

So what does it mean if I am not heard,
Not noticed,
Not recognized?

It means simply
That I walk a different path,
That I shun the mob,
The crowd,
The social scene.

And does it really matter
If I find not the fame I seek
So long as I keep seeking?
For when there is nothing more to seek,
There will be nothing left,
Except the deep, dark void of inner space.

New ATCs

Yesterday I took my niece Micah and nephew Dakota to our first ATC class.  These are the ones I did.  The one with the sepia tone says “This is my good side – DON”T cross it.”

The one with the John Atkinson Grimshaw “Fairy of the Night” Dakota did the background for using pastels.  I think it needs a name or quote or something to finish it – any great ideas out there in SFC land?
