The Wicked Garden: Twenty Wicked Words

Posted in Uncategorized by laralorelei on April 16th, 2008

Alistair and I ventured out of the door from the Painted Treehouse earlier today. It wasn’t the smartest decision we could have made, as the wind was in the East. We ended up in the Wicked Garden again, it always happens on days like this. The garden is always bleak and devoid of living things, most of the time its still, as everything decays quietly and unnoticed. Today was different. The wind had whipped up the leaves which is most odd, as we don’t recall seeing leaves in the garden before, and what was even more peculiar, the leaves were all the same size, as if they’d been cut out or down from larger ones.

The wind didn’t sound like normal wind should; there was a definite whine to it as it blew the leaves across the garden. We were so sure the wind was trying to spread the leaves as far as it could across the garden, and that should have told us for sure that something wasn’t right. I decided I really needed to examine a least one of the leaves to see if I could make sense of the swirling mass. Alistair tried to convince me now wasn’t the time to be curious about such things.

As soon as I touched the nearest leaf, it was as if they were all being drawn to me, clinging like ivy to my hands and face, slipping their way inside my pockets. The ones I could see had marks on them, words, but not just any words… wicked words unleashed through the curiosity of a young woman. I’d stumbled across some of the wickedness Pandora set free.

Gathering and containing such things as twenty wicked words is not easy, some always get away, so beware when you next notice the wind in the east, I have a feeling it may be carrying vexatious and devilish with it as it blows along.

I suppose it could have been worse - it could have been malicious and vicious that got away. But what am I worried about - our wind is almost always from the west or the north…Well, almost always…

Wow - was this the delicious result of prompt salad ? (Wicked garden, lists, open Pandora’s box) - great combo!

It is the combination of the art and words and warning that really have captured my imagination. Great post!
